Here's a comic zine experiment I've been working on. It's 32 pages, pocketbook size (4.25 x 6.875 in / 108 x 175 mm).
As a creative challenge, I started out trying to find a new way to make a gothic detective story.
Like
my other zines, I used only a free word processor software for the
writing, illustrating and layout. Basically joining basic shapes to make the
characters and stuff.
Of course there are
serious limitations to this approach. My attempts at design problem
solving led to very minimalist spreads with an underground aesthetic.
Sort of like weird fiction samizdat from an alternate history. Hence no
ISBN or barcode.
All these decisions came
together to really amplify the absurdist humor in the script. And so I
doubled down on that with little tweaks to make it even more so.
A weird gothic detective story snuck over from some parallel timeline.
