HOW IT BEGAN
After posting that earlier Gothic Comic zine (link) I started making random sketches, just to play around and see if any new ideas might emerge. Eventually a cluster of hideous three-eyed heads got me excited. And so I tried listing story ideas around them.
DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The hideous heads had a kind of Lovecraftian vibe, I felt. This observation led to plot ideas by the dozen. The first script I came up with also featured the main character's wife, and had him dragged off into another dimension. The script evolved significantly from there, though, and after three weeks of changes I felt I had a story that worked well.
ILLUSTRATIONS
Like the earlier zine, I used a free word processor software to create these images, by combining shapes. This time, though, I played with different panel sizes in each spread, instead of sticking with fixed panels. As this was one long story, I had more space to work with, and was thus able to use a bigger font size.
I also formatted the pages to be flipped vertically, as a novelty. Fold-and-cut zines are not typically done this way, so I thought this might interest collectors.
FUN FREEBIE
Old comics and magazines, especially from the seventies, sometimes featured cut-out paper toys as a gimmick. I love the idea. I've incorporated a similar idea here as a fun freebie. Download the zine, assemble it, read the story, and then check out the surprise for yourself.

Yeah, making this mini-comic was fun. For me, it's especially enjoyable to work in this word processor art style. Feel free to download and print extra copies of the zine for trading, or just sharing with zine-collecting friends.
